Indian celebs are no less than international celebs when it comes to contributing for those who are less fortunate. There are many that can be added to this list, and these celebs also support a whole lot of other causes - they help their staff, little kids on the streets. Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt are known for philantrophy. I guess, media portrayal has also become important nowadays, and sometimes these stars have been attacked far more for their celeb status than being praised for their humanity. It's time media acts responsibly.

These celebs endorse these causes because they believe in it. Unfortunately there are more people who believe that this is a publicity stunt. We should keep our cynicism aside, and join them :)

India is one diversified country, where cricket and bollywood are like religons and cults. The masses always look up to these stars as idols, whcih show the importance they play in our day to day lives. They are normal human beings but the status earned by them gives them that added respect which gives them the popularity to be follows.

A rare instance i can remember myself was a Polio drive i participated in 2002(before Amitabh Bachan took up this cause) and i saw first hand the task volunteers had to face to encourage parents to give their children polio drops. We tried to educate them thru drawings and literature but all in vain. In or about 2003-04, Mr. Bachan stands up to the cause of Polio. Shockingly parents in the same neighbourhood were swayed just by the fact that 'The' Mr. Amitabh Bachan insists that children need to be given polio drops hence we MUST give the children polio drops.

In a country where there is such blind faith, we need celebreties and stars to guide the masses to do what is good for society and what will make the furure a better place to live in.

In a country populated by uneduacted masses it isn't such a big deal to involve celebrities in spreading the social message amongst masses...atleast they can relate to the silverscreen stars and take as socially relevant step as possible for the good of the coutnry and its people!

The power our bollywood stars have now a days makes them truely "stars" in the eyes of the "star struck" masses. For them to spread and create awareness and endorse various causes only helps in uniting this country. An informative piece on how this whole system recycles itself - the fan following = creating popularity = social responsibiity = fan following .....
